    How to Get Around Walkersville, MD

    Walkersville sits right off of State Highway 15. A 10 minute drive south on Highway 15 leads to Frederick and access to Interstates 70 and 270. Baltimore is just over an hour away by driving east on Interstate 70. Washington, D.C. can be reached with an approximately 90-minute drive southeast on Interstate 270. Historic Gettysburg, PA is less than an hour north on Highway 15.

    Of course, if you’d rather take a scenic drive through the country, Walkersville is the perfect starting point. Explore beautiful western Maryland by heading out of Walkersville on Route 194, Route 26, or any of the other smaller roads that cut through town.

    Walkersville is known for its scenic beauty, historic heritage, and quaint dining and shopping options. You’ll be within an easy drive to either Baltimore or Washington, but there’s also plenty to do if you stay close to home. One popular activity is exploring the area’s wineries and breweries. There are 11 within a 30 minute drive of Walkersville. Most are situated on scenic sites in the mountains or the country. Spend an afternoon sampling a few and enjoying Maryland’s beautiful countryside.

    If you want a more active outdoor experience, check out Catoctin Mountain Park, which is just a quick 20 minute drive north from Walkersville. Catoctin is best known as the home to Camp David, the President’s official retreat. However, Catoctin is also home to more than 25 miles of hiking trails through mountains and up to scenic vistas. You can also camp, fish, and cross-country ski in the park.

    Frederick County is also well-known for its antiquing. Tour dozens of antique stores throughout Walkersville and the surrounding area and find pieces that could be as old as the United States itself.
